Cate started her career as a molecular microbiology researcher at the HIV/AIDS laboratory of Rush University Medical College in Chicago. After moving to Seattle, she studied malaria for several years before obtaining her doctorate at the University of Washington. As a pharmacist, she has worked in community pharmacies, long-term care, investigational drugs services, and federally qualified health centers.
